This example shows how the overwrapping process can be synchronized to a batch of
products (bottles) on a conveyor. The fast latch functionality is used to capture the position of the
bottles by reading a value from an encoder attached to the conveyor. This fast latch is triggered
when the bottles pass a registration sensor. From this measured position we can set a position
trigger value at which point our axes will start moving to wrap the batch of bottles. The move
types used to achieve this are known as ‘flying shears’. Once the bottles are wrapped they will
move past another sensor which will turn the heater on and shrink the wrap around the bottles.
Special Features Used
Fast latch to accurately capture position
Auxiliary encoder input to measure the position of the bottles
Flying shear to accurately move the plastic wrap in relation to the bottles
Free ActiveX tools for communication between host front end and controller
